Motion Composites: 10 Years Strong & Growing
The rigid, adjustable APEX is an award winner.
If you’re not yet entirely familiar with Motion Composites, the manufacturer of ultralightweight manual chairs for kids and adults… just give it time.
Well known for years in their home country of Canada, Motion Composites’ stylish, cutting-edge chairs are quickly gaining fans in the United States for many reasons.
It starts with Motion Composites’ use of carbon fiber.
The manufacturer also makes aluminum ultralightweight chairs. But Motion Composites’ carbon fiber frames are perhaps its most famous attribute, one that enables the company to boast incredibly light frame weights. For example, Motion Composites’ APEX, a fully adjustable rigid chair, has a transport weight of 9.2 lbs.
“With its superior fatigue resistance, extreme temperature tolerances and vibration dampening, carbon fiber is one of the strongest yet lightest materials on earth,” Motion Composites says.
The company was founded by Eric Simoneau and David Gingras, who started designing manual wheelchairs while in college. Motion Composites launched its first chair — the Helio — in 2008. In the next five years, the company grew more than 2200 percent and made the 2014 Profit 500 list as one of the fastest-growing companies in Canada. In 2017, the APEX won a Red Dot Design Award.
