Thanks to a new agreement between Cleveland Clinic and Select Medical, patients in northeast Ohio will soon have expanded access to complex rehab services.
The two organizations announced in June that they will be partnering to build a new 60-bed adult inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Avon, Ohio.
Founded in 1921, Cleveland Clinic is a mainstay in U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of Best Hospitals and finished fourth in the most recent 2013-2014 rankings. The non-profit medical center racks up more than 5 million patient visits each year.
Select Medical is one of the largest providers of specialized acute and post-acute care in the United States.
In a June 10 news announcement, the organizations said the new rehab facility would be built next to the Cleveland Clinic’s medical campus in Avon. The anticipated opening of the facility, which starts construction this summer, is late 2015.
“We recognize that the best way for patients to heal and recover is to have their rehabilitation close to their family,” said Cleveland Clinic Chief Medical Operations Officer Robert Wyllie, M.D. “This joint venture allows us to expand our services with a national leader in post-acute rehabilitation who has a proven record of partnering with academic medical centers, like Cleveland Clinic, to take care of the sickest patients.”
