New Center Offers Rehabilitation Targeted to Women
Women now have a targeted rehabilitation program at the Montefiore Medical Center.
The Bronx, N.Y.–based Women’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (WPM&R) will focus on osteoporosis, gender-specific issues in spinal cord injury, sports medicine and cardiac rehabilitation. In addition, the program plans to specifically address musculoskeletal disorder rehabilitation after pregnancy.
“The goal of our new program is to specifically address women’s issues and provide customized care based on unique differences in the anatomy of women,” said Dr. Anna M. Lasak, clinical director of the center’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. “We have seen that an approach which takes into account the specific physiology of women, along with the creation of tailored care plans, can produce improved outcomes and ultimately a better quality of life.”
Lasak will be joined by Dr. Laura Manfield, DO, whose goal will be helping women with various disabilities become as independent as possible.
WPM&R will employ a multidisciplinary team of physiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, rehabilitation nurses and social workers who will provide a wide spectrum of services.
