Online Magazine Unites Spina Bifida Community
In January, Laura Tellado, an Orlando blogger who writes about her life with spina bifida, added her voice to another online project. Faces of Spina Bifida, an online magazine, seeks to celebrate the diversity among people with spina bifida.
When researching advertising outlets in 2010, publisher Alyson Flynn, struck up a friendship with Tellado.
“Our friendship developed into my own interest in supporting Laura’s career. Her passions became my passions,” says Flynn, who lent her marketing background to develop Tellado’s media kit.
“There’s a lot of negativity online, and compounded with the challenges Laura faces out in the world, I envisioned a place where people with spina bifida sense a foundation of acceptance and a positive perspective highlighting the possibilities in any life.”
To support that mission, the Faces of Spina Bifida Web site features stories about people demonstrating their ability. Tellado’s writing emphasizes her capabilities and the potential of a life living with spina bifida.
