23-Year-Old With SCI Awarded New Power Wheelchair From Darrell Gwynn Foundation
Spencer Blomquist, a 23 year-old NASCAR fan and native of Cantonment, Fla., is the latest person to receive a power wheelchair from the Darrell Gwynn Foundation.
The organization presented Blomquist with a $20,000 wheelchair at its annual Hot Rods & Reels Charity Fishing Tournament with NASCAR Drivers on Lake Lloyd at the Daytona International Speedway Feb. 24.
Blomquist sustained a spinal cord injury from a gunshot wound when he was robbed in his car two years ago. His health insurance denied his claim for a power wheelchair. With his new equipment, Blomquist plans to go back to school to pursue a career.
The charity fishing tournament, benefiting the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, pairs NASCAR drivers with donors and supporters for a day of fishing. For more information on purchasing a boat or sponsorships for upcoming Hot Rods & Reels events in Homestead and Daytona, Fla., click here.
