Darrell Gwynn Foundation Makes Wheelchair Donation at Boat Parade
Stephan Moss transfers to his brand-new Winterfest-themed power wheelchair.
At the 40th Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade on Dec. 10 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Stephan Moss got a little surprise. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation gave him an $18,000 Winterfest-themed power wheelchair.
Moss, a father of three who was paralyzed after a stroke, was unable to get a power wheelchair through his health insurance. So, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s national Wheelchair Donation Program stepped in.
This year was the first time the Darrell Gwynn Foundation (Boat No. 54) participated in the parade to raise awareness of their wheelchair donation program. The 108-foot “Independence” yacht that served as the DGF boat was donated by Jon Manafort, of Crispin Special Investigations, Inc.
The boat was decorated by Darrell Gwynn Foundation staff and volunteers. It featured two illuminated Darrell Gwynn Foundation logos, a giant wheelchair logo and an array of lighted wheelchairs highlighting the foundation’s mission to support people with paralysis. A Christmas tree with wheelchairs underneath reminded parade viewers of the hundreds of children each year that ask Santa for a new wheelchair for Christmas.
