Free Stuff We Like: Senior Health Newsletters

Here’s something from our informal “Free Stuff We Love” department: National Institutes of Health NIHSeniorHealth e-newsletters, dedicated to “healthy aging” and full of pertinent topics for seniors, their families and the healthcare professionals who work with them.

Recent newsletter topics have included “Worried about falling? See exercises to help prevent a fall” and “What are the differences between hospice and palliative care?”

But among our recent favorites are checklists that can come in handy in overwhelming and stressful situations, such as when you or a member of your family is facing a new illness or condition (“What questions should I ask my doctor once I am given a diagnosis?”), or preparing for a hospital stay (“If I’m hospitalized, what questions should I ask the hospital staff?”).

You can even click on a printer-friendly version of the stories and checklists, then make printed copies to take with you or pass along to a loved one.

Depending on the subject, the quickly read and easily digested stories can be accompanied by short videos, tip sheets and resources for further exploring and learning. Sign up for the newsletters at nihseniorhealth.gov. Newsletters are sent no more than twice a week.
