Ride for Kelly Brush Foundation Sept. 8

The Kelly Brush Foundation has set a date for its seventh annual century ride. On Sept. 8 in Middlebury, Vt., bicyclists and handcyclists will pedal pavement to help athletes with spinal cord injuries experience sports.
“Conquering the challenges of paralysis through love of sport is an important goal of the Kelly Brush Foundation’s adaptive equipment grant program,” said Charlie Brush, the foundation’s president. “In addition to enjoying a fun and scenic ride through the Champlain Valley, participants in the Kelly Brush Century Ride have a positive impact on the lives of those with spinal cord injuries.”
Participants can choose from 25-, 50-, 65-, 85- or 100-mile courses. This year, riders also earn Patagonia clothing by reaching fund-raising milestones.
Middlebury College Ski Team started the ride to raise money to buy an adaptive mono-ski for team member Kelly Brush, who was paralyzed during a ski racing crash. Brush and her family later founded a nonprofit organization and opened the ride to the public.
Last year, more than 700 riders and 24 handcyclists participated in the Kelly Brush Century Ride, raising more than $275,000. Through grants funded by the ride, athletes are able to purchase adaptive skiing, cycling, bowling, rowing and scuba diving equipment.
